Weekly crypto leaderboard: STX jumps 121.2% while LAB posts the steepest drop

Crypto prices broadly advanced over the past week, but the gains were far from uniform. Drawing on weekly performance data for the top 100 tokens on CoinGecko, Odaily separated the market into three groups: sharp gainers, moderate risers, and the few names that fell even as the broader market moved higher. STX led the field with a 121.2% weekly gain, making it the biggest outlier among the top performers and the only non-Meme token at the very top of the list. CASHCAT, ENA, PENGU, TRUMP, ZEC, PUMP, MELANIA, and PEPE also ranked among the strongest movers, with weekly gains ranging from 49.3% to 102.2%. A second tier of tokens posted gains between 10% and 20%, including LDO, WLD, MORPHO, LINEA, NEAR, HBAR, ASTER, ETHFI, BNB, and ONDO. Odaily said this group was more closely tied to fundamentals and infrastructure themes than the first wave of narrative-led rallies. On the downside, only a handful of tokens fell during the same period. JELLYJELLY, WLFI, JTO, and LAB all posted weekly losses, with LAB down 13%, the weakest showing in the sample. All figures in the report were current as of Aug. 26.

Brazil prosecutors sue Tools for Humanity and AWS unit over paid iris collection, seek R$240 million

Prosecutors in São Paulo state have filed a public civil lawsuit against Tools for Humanity Corporation, the developer tied to World Network, and Amazon AWS Serviços Brasil, alleging the companies illegally collected iris biometric data from more than 400,000 people in exchange for financial compensation. The São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking at least R$240 million in collective moral damages, roughly $47 million, and is asking the court to permanently ban the practice of offering money for iris data. Prosecutor Patrícia Leitão also requested an injunction to preserve all records, metadata, contracts, and technical reports tied to the handling of the biometric information, while seeking clarity on which Amazon group entity actually hosted the data. The case builds on an earlier order from Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority, which on Jan. 24, 2025 told Tools for Humanity to stop offering cryptocurrency or other compensation for Brazilians’ iris scans, and on a 161-page São Paulo city council report that cited serious violations across data protection, consumer protection, and financial regulation.

São Paulo prosecutors sue World developer, seek about $47.2 million in damages

Prosecutors in the Brazilian state of São Paulo have filed a civil lawsuit against Tools for Humanity, the developer behind World, and Amazon AWS Serviços Brasil, accusing the companies of improperly collecting iris data from more than 400,000 people in São Paulo. According to the prosecutors, participants received incentives ranging from 300 to 700 Brazilian reais in exchange for iris scans. The lawsuit asks the court to halt the practice of obtaining iris data through payments or other benefits, order the permanent deletion of the information already collected, and require the defendants to pay at least 240 million reais, or roughly $47.2 million, for collective moral damages. The case centers on how biometric data was gathered and the compensation offered to participants, based on the claims presented by the São Paulo state prosecution authority.

World Foundation Raises $52.5 Million to Expand World ID as AI Bot Concerns Grow

World Foundation said Friday it has raised $52.5 million to expand World ID, the "proof of human" system tied to Sam Altman’s World project. The initial token sale was led by Pantera Capital and included Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto, with all WLD sold subject to a 12-month lockup. According to the foundation, the capital will be used to bring World ID to organizations, consumers, and their AI agents as demand for tools that distinguish humans from automated systems rises. World ID uses a one-time iris scan through the Orb device to let users prove they are unique humans without disclosing their identity, with the credential stored on a phone. The foundation said the system will be integrated this year with Zoom, Docusign, Okta, Vercel, and Tinder, alongside the launch of World ID 4.0 for enterprise use and developer-built credentials. The announcement comes as the project marks its third anniversary and reports more than 39 million network participants, 18 million Orb-verified users, and 475 million ID proofs processed, even as the project continues to face regulatory scrutiny over biometric data practices in markets including Hong Kong, Kenya, Brazil, Spain, and South Korea.
